More than 80 flood warnings remain active across England and Wales as relentless rainfall continues to batter large parts of the country. The Environment Agency has issued 87 flood warnings and 261 flood alerts, while Natural Resources Wales issued 11 flood alerts, highlighting the widespread risk of flooding.

The warnings cover south and south-west England, the East and West Midlands. Flood alerts, indicating flooding is possible, span much of England and parts of Wales.

The crisis follows days of relentless rainfall. South-west England and South Wales recorded rain every single day of 2026 up to Thursday, with January seeing 50% more rainfall than usual in these regions.

Imminent flooding risk

Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service warned that the River Dene has reached critical levels. The service stated: "Due to heavy prolonged rainfall today, the local levels at River Dene have risen to a state where flooding is imminent."

Met Office meteorologist Alex Deakin described Friday's conditions: "Friday's been a very soggy day across a good chunk of the country, cold wind continuing to feed in the cloud and the moisture across north-east England and eastern Scotland."

More wet weather ahead

Forecasters predict further heavy downpours and strong winds for southern coastlines in the south-west overnight Friday. Saturday will bring blustery showers to the region and heavy showers in South Wales.

Sunday offers brief respite with showers and some sunshine. However, more wet and windy conditions will move in from the west at the start of next week.
