A man in his 70s died after a light aircraft crash-landed on a runway at Sherburn Aero Club in North Yorkshire on Sunday. Emergency services pronounced him deceased at the scene shortly before 1pm.
The man, from the Leeds area, was believed to be the sole occupant of the aircraft. The crash occurred at the aero club in Sherburn in Elmet, near Leeds.
North Yorkshire Police secured the scene and notified aviation authorities. A spokesperson said: "We are currently guarding the scene and the Air Accidents Investigation Branch has been made aware."
The force is withholding further details while investigations continue. "We are not currently able to release any further information about the incident or deceased," the spokesperson added. Specially trained officers are supporting the victim's family.
