Rasmus Hojlund is set to be excluded from Manchester United's squad for Sunday's Premier League opener against Arsenal at Old Trafford. Coach Ruben Amorim has made the decision amid intense speculation over the 22-year-old striker's future.

The arrival of Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig for £73.7 million has severely restricted Hojlund's opportunities at the club. The Denmark international, who previously expressed a strong desire to remain at United, now faces an uncertain future under the new tactical system.

Amorim left Hojlund on the bench for the final pre-season friendly against Fiorentina, even though Sesko's only involvement was being paraded before kick-off. Mason Mount occupied the false nine position, highlighting the manager's tactical preferences for the upcoming season.

Transfer interest mounts

AC Milan are among the clubs keen to sign the striker, although no agreement is currently in place. Metro reports that Hojlund would approve a move away if he remains benched or excluded from key matches.

According to the Daily Star, United prefer a permanent sale over a loan deal due to Financial Fair Play considerations. The club appears willing to accept a loss on Hojlund's current book value to facilitate his departure.

Tactical overhaul continues

Amorim has spent £200 million on a completely revamped forward line, with Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha set to fill the two number 10 slots the manager prefers. England international Kobbie Mainoo could also play as a false nine if needed, while Bruno Fernandes successfully performed the role in the 2024 FA Cup final.

The Mirror reports that Joshua Zirkzee is now fully fit and available as an additional striker option. Seventeen-year-old Chido Obi featured for the first team at the end of last season, though he is unlikely to be considered a regular starter at this stage of his development.

Hojlund joined United for £72 million two years ago from Atalanta and was the club's main striker last season, scoring 10 goals in 52 appearances. His debut campaign brought 16 goals, showing promise that has since been overshadowed by tactical changes.
