A 33-year-old man from Watford died after falling from a hot air balloon on Friday morning, Sussex Police have confirmed. The tragic incident occurred during what was meant to be a recreational flight experience in West Sussex.
The man fell from the balloon at approximately 9.20am near Newpound Common in Wisborough Green. Police launched an extensive search operation using drones, officers and specialist dogs to locate him.
Search operation and discovery
His body was discovered in a field at about 1.50pm following the coordinated search effort, Sussex Police said. The search had continued for several hours across the rural West Sussex countryside.
The balloon was carrying 16 passengers and a pilot on a flight from Billingshurst to Dunsfold when the incident occurred. Police confirmed the deceased man had purchased the hot air balloon experience as a flight activity.

The man's family has been informed of his death and are receiving specialist support during this difficult time. Police have confirmed they are treating the family with sensitivity given the tragic circumstances.
Detective Sergeant Elaine Keating said: "This is a tragic incident and our thoughts go to the family of the man and everyone on the flight. We are offering them specialist support at this time.
