Three people were killed and eight others wounded when multiple gunmen opened fire inside a Brooklyn restaurant early Sunday morning. The shooting occurred at Taste of the City Lounge on Franklin Avenue in Crown Heights at approximately 3:30am.

Police rushed the eight wounded victims to local hospitals, though their conditions have not been disclosed. The victims range in age from 27 to 61, comprising eight males and three females.

Investigation underway

Multiple gunmen remain at large with no arrests made. Police recovered at least 36 shell casings from multiple guns at the scene.

Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said: "Officers arrived with minutes of the first 911 calls and found numerous gunshot victims inside the location. Currently we have identified 11 victims, ranging in age from 27 to 61. Eight males and three females."

Rare incident amid low crime

The Commissioner noted this represents an unusual occurrence during a period of historically low gun violence. She said: "We have the lowest number of shooting incidents and shooting victims seven months into the year we've seen on record in the city of New York. Something like this is, of course, thank god, an anomaly and it's a terrible thing that's happened this morning."

Scene details emerge

According to Daily Star reports, the restaurant operates late hours until 2am-3am, serving food and entertainment with live bands and DJs. Witness accounts described pools of blood visible inside the venue following the attack.
