US lawmakers have formally requested Andrew Mountbatten Windsor to appear for a transcribed interview about his ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The House Oversight Committee sent a letter Thursday demanding his cooperation by November 20.
16 members of Congress signed the request, citing "well-documented allegations" and Andrew's "long-standing friendship" with Epstein. The committee wrote: "In the interest of justice for the victims of Jeffrey Epstein, we request that you cooperate with the committee's investigation by sitting for a transcribed interview with the Committee."
The investigation focuses on Epstein's sex trafficking network and potential accomplices. Financial records containing notations like "massage for Andrew" have raised serious questions.
The committee is also probing alleged efforts to silence or intimidate victims.
Royal Fallout
The congressional request comes days after King Charles stripped Andrew of the prince title and HRH style through Letters Patent dated November 3.
Andrew, 65, previously settled a civil sexual assault case with Virginia Giuffre in 2022 for millions, though he denied all allegations and never admitted meeting her.
Democratic Congressman Robert Garcia, ranking member of the panel, said: "Rich and powerful men have evaded justice for far too long. Now, former Prince Andrew has the opportunity to come clean and provide justice for the survivors. [...]" His colleague Congressman Suhas Subramanyam added: "If he is innocent, then he can clear his name. [...] And if not, our investigation will show that, and the victims will receive long-overdue justice."
Giuffre's posthumously published memoir in October detailed allegations she was sexually assaulted by Andrew three times, including at age 17. In previously unaired BBC Panorama clips released Tuesday, she recalled: "Ghislaine tells me that I have to do for Andrew what I do for Jeffrey, and that made me sick."
Andrew has vehemently denied all accusations.
