A man has been found guilty of murdering two civil partners and dumping their dismembered remains in suitcases near Clifton Suspension Bridge. Yostin Andres Mosquera, 35, killed Albert Alfonso, 62, and Paul Longworth, 71, at their flat in Shepherd's Bush, west London, on July 8 last year.

The Colombian national "decapitated and dismembered" the victims, froze parts of their remains and transported the rest in suitcases to Bristol's iconic bridge, Woolwich Crown Court heard. Mosquera had been staying with the couple at their home in Scotts Road.

Brutal attack details emerge

Alfonso suffered repeated stab wounds to his torso, face and neck, whilst Longworth was attacked with a hammer to the back of his head, shattering his skull. The prosecution told jurors that Alfonso enjoyed "extreme sex" and had met Mosquera online years earlier as part of that world.

Alfonso was stabbed to death during a filmed session, with footage shown in court capturing Mosquera singing and dancing after the attack. Prosecutor Deanna Heer KC described the killings as "calculated" and "premeditated".

Defence claims rejected

Mosquera's plan was to hurl the suitcases over Clifton Suspension Bridge to dispose of the remains, the court heard. He admitted killing Alfonso but claimed it was manslaughter by reason of loss of control, pleading not guilty to murdering both men.

The defendant insisted Alfonso had killed Longworth and claimed he feared for his own life when he stabbed Alfonso. He told jurors he felt "intimidated" and believed threats had been made to his family in Colombia.

Verdict delivered swiftly

It took the jury just five hours and three minutes to unanimously find Mosquera guilty of both murders. His defence counsel suggested his singing and dancing after the attack could have been an emotional outburst after being overwhelmed by events.

Mr Justice Bennathan KC said he would sentence Mosquera on October 24, confirming the only possible sentence is life imprisonment. The judge ordered a psychiatric report to help determine the minimum term Mosquera must serve.
