A 40-year-old man has appeared in court charged with murdering a woman seven months after allegedly carrying out a violent sexual assault on another victim. Simon Levy faces multiple serious charges spanning two separate incidents in north London.

Levy, of Beaufoy Road, Tottenham, is accused of murdering Sheryl Wilkins, who was 39 years old. Wilkins was found unresponsive in High Road, Tottenham, on 24th August.

Earlier alleged attack

The charges also include allegations from seven months before the murder. Levy is accused of grievous bodily harm with intent, non-fatal strangulation and two counts of rape against a second woman in Haringey on 21st January.

The second alleged victim cannot be named for legal reasons. The charges suggest a pattern of serious violent offences across the seven-month period.

Court appearance details

Levy appeared at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court on Monday wearing a grey tracksuit. The court heard he is blind in one eye and was permitted to wear sunglasses during the hearing.

He remained seated in the dock after telling the court he could not stand. Levy spoke slowly and quietly as he confirmed his identity to District Judge Elizabeth Baker.

The case will now progress to the Old Bailey, where Levy is scheduled to appear on Wednesday for his next hearing.
