Jerzy Wójcik was standing on a cold balcony in Warsaw when a friend called. A conversation about funding one power generator for families in Kyiv left without heat turned into a wave of solidarity that moved people across Poland – and beyond.

Together with other activists, including Joanna Mosiej from Sestry.eu, Natalia Panchenko from Stand With Ukraine and Bartosz Kramek from the Open Dialogue Foundation, Jerzy decided to act. Once they launched the fundraiser “Warmth from Poland for Kyiv”, entrepreneurs, civil society organisations, the media, and public institutions all joined the effort. But above all, it was 77,000 Poles who chose to support people facing war and freezing temperatures in Ukraine.

More than PLN 10.4 million raised is not just a number. It is warmth in homes, light in the darkness, and the feeling that no one was left alone.
