A 22-year-old Afghan national appeared in court on Thursday charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder following a fatal stabbing in west London. Safi Dawood was remanded into custody at Westminster Magistrates' Court and will appear at the Old Bailey within 48 hours.

The incident occurred on Monday evening in Midhurst Gardens, Uxbridge. Wayne Broadhurst, 49, died at the scene after suffering multiple stab wounds to his neck, chest and side while walking his dog. Prosecutor Theo Woodhead told the court: «Mr Broadhurst, who was not known to Dawood and was attacked while he was walking his dog, died at the scene after suffering multiple stab wounds including to his neck, chest and side.»

Two other people were injured in the attack. A 45-year-old man remains hospitalised with life-changing injuries, while a 14-year-old boy has been discharged. Dawood was known to these two victims but not to Broadhurst, according to police.

Community Response

Neighbours intervened during the attack, with some using baseball bats to protect the injured 45-year-old man. Tahira Hassan, a resident, told PA news agency: «They were protecting him, so they saved his life. They did a very good job. Maybe he would have died if they didn't protect him.»

Katarina Pohancenikova, managing director at Greener Ealing Ltd where Broadhurst worked, described him as a «well-respected and dedicated member of our team who made a real contribution to the work we do». Approximately 100 mourners gathered near the scene on Tuesday to lay flowers and light candles.

Dawood entered the UK in a lorry in 2020 and was granted asylum in 2022. He has also been charged with possessing an offensive weapon.
