Three men have been arrested following a fatal crash that claimed the lives of a motorcyclist and a pedestrian on a busy Lancashire road. The collision occurred on the A6 Preston Road in Clayton-Le-Woods shortly after 10.30pm on Thursday.
Lancashire Police received reports that a BMW motorbike had collided with two pedestrians. The motorcyclist, a man in his 50s from Macclesfield, Cheshire, and one of the pedestrians, a man in his 60s from Clayton-Le-Woods, both died at the scene.
Woman remains in hospital
A second pedestrian, a woman in her 60s, was taken to hospital following the crash. She remains in a serious but stable condition, police confirmed.
Three men who were in the area at the time of the collision were arrested on Friday on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. The suspects are a 53-year-old man from Whittle-le-Woods, Lancashire, a 57-year-old man from Middlewich, and a 46-year-old man from Congleton, both in Cheshire.
Investigation continues after arrests
All three men have since been released under investigation pending further inquiries. Detective Sergeant Joe Ghigi said the collision had "very sadly resulted in the death of two men" and that inquiries were ongoing to establish the circumstances.
"Our thoughts are with the woman receiving treatment, and the loved ones of both men who died," Ghigi said. "They are being supported by specially trained officers at this incredibly distressing time."
Police appeal for witnesses
Despite the arrests, police emphasised that their investigation remains active. "Although we have now made three arrests, our inquiries are very much ongoing," Detective Sergeant Ghigi added.
Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or has footage that could assist the investigation to come forward. Anyone with information should contact Lancashire Police on 101 or email [email protected], quoting log 1510 of 7th August 2025.
